Cahokia, the city bigger than London
Collinsville, Illinois
Skubasteve834 · CC BY 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons
A Mississippian city of perhaps 20,000 people, larger than London at the time and the biggest settlement north of Mexico until Philadelphia passed it in 1800. Monks Mound holds more earth than the Great Pyramid's stone, all of it carried in baskets. It was abandoned by 1350 and nobody is certain why.
