Alorton, short for aluminum ore town
1944
Alorton, Illinois
The Aluminum Ore Company worked the edge of East St. Louis, and the settlement beside it took a squeezed version of the company's name when it incorporated in 1944. Cahokia Downs racetrack sat inside its limits. Alorton stopped existing on 6 May 2021, when it merged with Cahokia and Centreville to make the new city of Cahokia Heights.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
