The Church of the Holy Family, the oldest parish in the country
1699
Cahokia Heights, Illinois
Kbh3rd · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
Canadian missionaries founded this parish on the Cahokia bottom in 1699, and it is generally counted as the oldest continuously active Catholic parish in the United States. The log church on the site is the oldest church building west of the Allegheny Mountains. Everything around it has changed name and government several times over. The parish has not.
