Congress authorized this reservoir in 1965 as Lakeview Lake, off the back of a promise made in 1961 by Joe R. Pool, the Oak Cliff congressman who pushed the money through. Pool died in office in 1968 and Congress renamed the project for him in 1982. Construction ran from 1977 to the end of 1985, the gates closed in January 1986, and the water took until 1989 to fill 7,740 acres of the Mountain Creek and Walnut Creek bottoms.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
