SIL's International Linguistics Center takes up about a hundred acres of oak and cedar on the escarpment above Joe Pool Lake. The Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics opened on that campus in 1998 to teach people how to describe and write down languages that have never been written, and renamed itself Dallas International University in 2018. Pioneer Bible Translators works from the same stretch of hillside, which makes this quiet corner of the county a hub for the world's smallest languages.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
