The College of New Rochelle, New York's first Catholic women's college
1904
New Rochelle, New York
Mother Irene Gill of the Ursuline Order opened the College of St. Angela in 1904, the first Catholic college for women in New York State, and it took the name College of New Rochelle in 1910. It admitted men in 2016. Three years after that it collapsed financially, and Mercy College absorbed its students, its programmes and its records.
