Miami International Airport starts as Pan American Field
1928
Miami-Dade County, Florida

Pan American Airways opened a field on this ground in 1928 to carry mail and then passengers to Havana and onward into Latin America. The county took the site over and grew it into Miami International, now more than a thousand flights a day to nearly 200 destinations. Its expansion swallowed farmland in Virginia Gardens and pressed the airport up against the southern edge of Miami Springs.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
