Miami Army Airfield flew wartime cargo out of the old 36th Street Airport
1942
Miami-Dade County, Florida
The Army Air Forces took over the civilian 36th Street Airport during the Second World War and ran Air Transport Command operations from it, sending aircraft and freight south toward the Caribbean and Latin America. It went back to civilian control in 1946 and served as an Air Force Reserve base from 1949 to 1960. The old Air Transport Command buildings still sit on the northeast corner of what is now Miami International Airport.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
