Mines Field becomes Los Angeles International Airport
1928
Westchester, Los Angeles, California
The city picked a barley field in Westchester to host the 1928 National Air Races, then chose the same ground that July for its municipal airport. Los Angeles leased it as Mines Field, bought the land outright in 1937, and renamed it Los Angeles International in 1949. Every town in this ring took its shape from what happened next, including the ones the flight paths went over.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
