Turner Tech keeps a working livestock farm on an inner city campus
1993
NW 19th Avenue, West Little River, Miami-Dade County, Florida
Miami-Dade opened this school in 1993 as an all magnet high school built entirely around the career academy model, where every student picks a trade track and takes academic classes alongside it. One of those tracks is agriculture, so the campus carries stables of cattle, hogs, goats and sheep, plus poultry coops and greenhouses, a few miles from Miami International Airport. It is named for William H. Turner, a state legislator who chaired the county school board. Districts around the country sent people to look at it in the years after it opened.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
