Cherry Creek Dam holds while Denver drowns in 1965

Castlewood Canyon Dam failed in 1933 and sent a fifteen foot wall of water down Cherry Creek toward Denver, which is the reason the Army Corps of Engineers built this earthen dam between 1948 and 1950, 141 feet high and nearly three miles long at the crest. On the night of 16 June 1965 the reservoir behind it rose sixteen feet and held, storing everything Cherry Creek could throw at the city. The South Platte on the other side of Denver was not dammed, and that flood killed 21 people and damaged or destroyed close to 2,000 buildings.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
