Brandon Road Lock and Dam
1933
Brandon Road, Joliet, Illinois

Built between 1927 and 1933 as part of the Illinois Waterway, the scheme that let barges run from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi. The lock is 600 feet long with a drop of 34 feet, and the dam runs nearly half a mile. A disused junction lock from the old Illinois and Michigan Canal sits alongside it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
