The Corps of Engineers dams Denton Creek and floods 15,700 acres
1952
Grapevine Lake, Texas
Congress authorised the reservoir in the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1945 and construction began in 1948. The Corps of Engineers took about 15,700 acres north of town and easements on 2,200 more, closed the dam on Denton Creek and started impounding water in July 1952. The bottomland farms went under a lake that now supplies the mid-cities with drinking water and holds back Trinity River floods.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
