Garza renames itself Lake Dallas after the dam next door

The city of Dallas dammed the Elm Fork of the Trinity here between 1924 and 1927 to secure its own water supply, and the small town of Garza on the bank fed and housed the construction crews. The reservoir was called Lake Dallas, and in 1929 the town dropped its own name and took the lake's. The Army Corps enlarged the dam in the 1950s and the water became Lewisville Lake.
