Willis Avenue Bridge, replaced by a span floated down the Hudson
1901
Mott Haven, the Bronx
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
The swing bridge opened in 1901 to carry First Avenue across the Harlem River into the Bronx. Its 2,400 ton replacement span was assembled near Albany, floated 130 miles down the Hudson on barges in 2010, and lowered onto the centre pier with the help of the tide. Marathon runners cross it at the twenty mile mark.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
