The Walkway over the Hudson

A railway cantilever bridge of 1889, the first to cross the Hudson south of Albany, and briefly the longest bridge in the world, caught fire in 1974 and stood derelict for thirty-five years. Volunteers got it decked over as a footpath, and it is now the longest elevated pedestrian bridge anywhere, 212 feet above the water.
