The hillside tracts above Slauson were laid out in the 1920s with covenants barring sale to Black buyers. After the Supreme Court made those covenants unenforceable in 1948, Black doctors, lawyers, athletes and entertainers bought in, and View Park and Windsor Hills became one of the wealthiest Black communities in the country. In 2016 View Park was listed on the National Register as the largest historic district in the United States designated for African American history.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
