Union Township, the Hudson County town that got carved up until nothing was left
1898
West New York, New Jersey
The legislature cut Union Township out of North Bergen in 1861. Union Hill took a piece in 1864, Guttenberg annexed another in 1878, and on 5 July 1898 the residents of what remained voted to incorporate as the town of West New York. The referendum took effect three days later and Union Township ceased to exist. Union Hill went on to merge into Union City in 1925, so both of the pieces outlived the parent.
