Clifton is what was left of Acquackanonk Township
1917

Acquackanonk Township was set up in 1693 and covered most of what is now southern Passaic County. Piece by piece it was taken apart: Paterson broke off in 1831, Little Falls in 1868, Passaic became independent in 1871, Montclair went in 1907. On April 26, 1917 the remainder incorporated itself as Clifton and the township ceased to exist. The old Lenape name is usually read as a fishing place on a fast stream.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
