Westinghouse bought this hillside in 1902 and opened a foundry on it on 3 October 1903, first to cast turbine and condenser parts for his other plants. The iron foundry building ran 612 feet long. He named the place for Trafford Park in Manchester, where his British company had its works, and the town that grew around the gates incorporated as a borough in 1904. It still straddles the Allegheny and Westmoreland county line, with almost all of its people on the Westmoreland side.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
