The Wilmette depot, called the finest station on the line
1873
Wilmette, Illinois

Built in 1873 for the Chicago and North Western, this is the building that made Wilmette commutable and turned a lakeside settlement into a suburb. It handled passengers until the 1890s, carried freight until 1946, then sat unwanted until the village moved it bodily to a new spot in 1974. It survives as a restaurant, and the village still calls it the most historic building it has.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
