The Batavia depot, first of the Burlington's stations
1854
Batavia, Illinois
The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy built this limestone station in 1854, the first of the many it would put up across the Midwest, and it handled the town's passengers and the windmills Batavia shipped out by the thousand. It was moved and listed on the National Register in 1979. It now holds the town's windmill collection and its Mary Todd Lincoln material, the asylum that held her having stood a few streets away.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
