The plant on the Alexandria waterfront built naval torpedoes through two wars and was then used as federal storage. Alexandria converted it in 1974 into working studios open to the public. It now holds more than eighty studios, eight galleries and workshops for around 165 artists, the largest collection of publicly accessible working artist studios in the country, and roughly half a million people walk through it a year.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
