The Staten Island Ferry
1905
New York Harbor
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The city took the route over in 1905 after a private operator's boat burned, and it has been free since 1997. Around 70,000 people a day cross the harbour past the Statue of Liberty on what is, technically, a commuter bus.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
