Bargemusic, the concert hall on a coffee barge
1977
Fulton Ferry Landing, Brooklyn, New York
Olga Bloom was 57 and done with a career in opera house and Broadway pits when she bought an 1899 coffee barge and set about making it a concert hall. She scavenged cherrywood paneling from a retired Staten Island Ferry and built the benches and a brick fireplace with a few volunteers. Moored at Fulton Ferry Landing from 1977, it staged more than 5,000 concerts, mostly chamber music, with the Manhattan skyline moving slightly behind the players. The concerts came ashore to the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse in April 2025.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
