The Pennsylvania Railroad picked the flat ground near Walls' Station for its new Pittsburgh classification yard, so the yard everyone calls Pitcairn sat in the borough of Wall. The first receiving and classification tracks were finished by 1892, a westbound hump opened in late 1905 and an eastbound hump followed two years later on the old Wall family farm. About 4,000 people lived here in 1904, most of them railroaders and their boarders. Wall was down to 519 residents by 2020.
