National City, the stockyards town that evicted everyone in it
1907
National City, Illinois
National City was incorporated in 1907 as a company town for the St. Louis National Stock Yards, the yards that made East St. Louis the self-styled Hog Capital of the Nation. The stockyards company owned every house in the place. In 1996 it evicted all of its residents, and a court dissolved the town the following year on the grounds that nobody lived there.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
