Conway Yard was the biggest freight yard in the world
1956
Conway, PA
The Pennsylvania Railroad spent about $35 million rebuilding this yard along the Ohio, and when the eastbound half opened in 1956 it was the largest and most automated freight classification yard on earth. It held that title until 1980, sorting thousands of cars a day across nearly four miles of riverbank. Norfolk Southern still runs it, and it is still one of the largest yards in the country.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
