The Northwest Marietta Historic District keeps 230 acres of the old town

Sherman's army occupied Marietta but did not burn its houses, so the streets running northwest off the square still carry Greek Revival, Plantation Plain and late Victorian homes side by side. The district covers about 230 acres from Whitlock Avenue out Kennesaw Avenue to Noses Creek. It was listed on the National Register in 1975.
