The National Museum of Transportation and the oldest rail tunnel west of the Mississippi

Founded in 1944, the museum fills 42 acres with locomotives, rolling stock, cars, aircraft and a boat, and holds one of the largest collections of steam locomotives anywhere. In the southwest corner of the property is West Barretts Tunnel, bored in 1853 as one of a pair that were the first rail tunnels to operate west of the Mississippi River. The museum has its own spur onto an active main line.
