On 25 April 1946 the Burlington's Advance Flyer made an unscheduled stop at Loomis Street so the crew could check its running gear. The Exposition Flyer came up behind on the same track at about eighty miles an hour and could not stop in time. Forty five people were killed and roughly 125 injured. The wreck is the main reason American passenger trains without automatic train control are still held to 79 mph.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
