The Mineola post office, built as a hexagon to face the corner

One of the many post offices New York State got out of the Depression era federal building programs, this brick Colonial Revival box went up in 1936 at First and Main in the county seat. Its plan is not a box at all but a rough hexagon, cut that way so the main entrance could face southwest into the street corner instead of sitting flat against one side. Nothing else in the New York series from those years was built to that plan.
