Joliet's old post office, built when the city was outgrowing itself

Congress put up $100,000 for it in 1899, and the supervising architect James Knox Taylor drew the plans. Joliet grew so fast in the following years that Congress had to fund a $185,000 expansion before the building was old. It sorted the city's mail from 1903 until 1981.
