The Goethals Bridge, named for the man who built the Panama Canal
1928
Arthur Kill between Elizabeth, New Jersey and Staten Island
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
One of the Port Authority's first two vehicle crossings, opened in 1928 over the Arthur Kill to Staten Island. It carries the name of George Washington Goethals, who finished the Panama Canal and then became the agency's first consulting engineer. The original cantilever was replaced by a pair of cable stayed spans in 2017 and 2018.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
