Digging the Industrial Canal cut New Orleans East off from the rest of the city, so the Port of New Orleans built four bridges to sew it back together. This bascule span opened in 1919 carrying two lanes of Almonaster Avenue and two railroad tracks, and it also restored Old Gentilly Road, which the canal had severed. Three of the original four are still in service.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
