The Fore River Shipyard builds warships for a century
1901
Quincy, Massachusetts
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Thomas A. Watson, the man on the other end of the first telephone call, started this yard in Braintree and moved it to Quincy Point in 1901. Bethlehem Steel bought it in 1913 and General Dynamics in 1963, and in that run it launched hundreds of hulls including the battleship USS Massachusetts. It closed in 1986.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
