Pendleton Shipyard builds for the war at the Florida Avenue wharf
1941
Lower Ninth Ward, New Orleans, Louisiana
Pendleton E. Leyde opened this yard on the Industrial Canal in 1941 and it went straight into the Emergency Shipbuilding Program. Through the war it built vessels on the wharf and inspected and delivered small craft from other Mississippi River yards to the Navy. It was sold afterwards to an engineering firm and closed for good in 1958.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
