Thirteen people met in a Miami Beach hotel in September 1961 to start a congregation for Jews leaving Cuba after the revolution. Many were the children of European refugees who had gone to Havana in the 1920s and 1930s because American immigration quotas had been cut. They were not especially welcomed by the Jewish community already here and built their own, opening this synagogue in the 1980s.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
