Ahavath Chesed, the oldest congregation in Jacksonville, rebuilds in Mandarin
1979
Jacksonville, Florida
Jacksonville's Jews organised in 1867 and chartered Ahavath Chesed in 1882, making it one of the two oldest Jewish congregations in Florida. The Great Fire of 1901 burned its temple at Laura and Union, and it was the first house of worship in the city to be rebuilt. The congregation took over a Henry John Klutho building in Riverside in 1927 and then followed the city south, dedicating a new temple on San Jose Boulevard in 1979.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
