The Brewster Building, from Rolls-Royce to fighter planes

Brewster had been building carriage and car bodies off Times Square, and when the Queensboro Bridge cut the trip to Queens to minutes the company opened this assembly plant at the foot of it in 1911. Rolls-Royce of America bought Brewster in 1925 and finished Phantom II chassis in the building. In the Second World War the Brewster Aeronautical Corporation built F2A Buffalo fighters and Corsairs here, on stacked floors badly suited to aircraft, and the finished planes flew out of Roosevelt Field in Mineola.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
