The Bayonne Bridge, the longest steel arch in the world

Othmar Ammann threw a 1,675 foot steel arch across the Kill Van Kull to Bayonne, the longest span of its kind anywhere when it opened and still the longest for the next forty six years. Ammann pioneered the use of manganese steel in an arch to do it. It was the third road connection built between Staten Island and New Jersey in four years.
