The Arcada Theatre opens for silent pictures and vaudeville

Lester Norris, a Chicago Tribune cartoonist who settled in St. Charles, built this house on Main Street and opened it on Labor Day 1926 with silent films and live vaudeville acts on the same bill. Apart from short closures for repair it has run ever since, which very few theatres of its generation managed. It faces the Hotel Baker across the Fox River in matching Spanish revival dress, both of them paid for out of the same small town money.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
