The Airport Marina Hotel and its 32 lanes of bowling
1962
Westchester, Los Angeles, California
Welton Becket finished this 800-room hotel at Lincoln and Manchester in December 1962, as jet traffic turned the ground around LAX into a business district with its own downtown. It opened with a shopping centre bolted on: a Joseph Magnin store, a pharmacy, a bank and a 32-lane bowling alley. Amfac bought the hotel and the shopping leasehold in 1968 and ran them through its Fred Harvey division. The tower is still standing under later names.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
