New Territory spent its whole life as a municipal utility district in Sugar Land's extraterritorial jurisdiction, with its own water board and no city government. The city started working toward taking it and neighbouring Greatwood in 2007, and the annexation took effect at 12:01 in the morning on 12 December 2017. Roughly 30,000 people and 2,500 acres crossed the line at once, taking Sugar Land from about 87,000 residents to nearly 118,000. It was the largest single expansion in the city's history.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
