Kleberg voted itself into Dallas in 1978
1978
Kleberg, Dallas, Texas
The community started around 1850 where two wagon trails crossed on land granted to Robert Justus Kleberg, who had fought at San Jacinto, and it grew into a farm town once the railroad came in 1881. It incorporated in 1956 and by the 1970s was known as the biggest town in Texas that charged no property tax at all. Residents voted for consolidation with Dallas 559 to 342, and the annexation took effect on 3 April 1978.
