Montana County, the Kansas Territory county that lasted two years
1859
Aurora, Colorado

Before Colorado existed, the plains east of the Cherry Creek diggings were the far western end of Kansas Territory. The territorial legislature carved out Montana County on 2 February 1859 to give the new gold camps some form of government from 500 miles away. It was wiped off the books on 29 January 1861, the day Kansas entered the Union as a state and shed everything west of its present border. The ground it covered is now Aurora.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
