Mission Bend fills the county line as Houston pushes west
1980
Fort Bend County, Texas
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Subdivisions started going up along Highway 6 here in the late 1970s, where Houston's westward growth ran past the edge of the city and across the Harris and Fort Bend county line. By 1990 Mission Bend held 24,945 people and not one of them lived inside a municipality. The 2020 count was 36,914. It sits in Houston's extraterritorial jurisdiction, which makes it one of the largest places in Texas with no city government of its own.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
