The parish was founded in 1831 for the Irish labourers who dug Lowell's canals and then went into its mills, which makes it one of the oldest Catholic parishes north of Boston. The Gothic Revival church here now was built in 1853 to a design by Patrick Keely, who drew hundreds of Catholic churches across the northeast. It anchors the Acre, the neighbourhood where each wave of Lowell immigrants landed first.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
