Father William Barry was sent to Miami Beach in 1926 to start a Catholic parish where there was none. Carl Fisher, who was not Catholic and who wrote covenants into his deeds barring sales to Jews, handed over five polo stables for a church and school. The first mass was said in a converted stable that June. The permanent church was dedicated in 1929.
