South Gate incorporates as the Azalea City
1923
South Gate, California
The name comes from the South Gate Gardens on the old Cudahy ranch, and the town incorporated in January 1923 across seven and a half square miles seven miles from downtown Los Angeles. It adopted the azalea as its symbol in 1965 and took to calling itself the Azalea City. In 1990 it was one of ten places in the country given the All-America City Award. Around 92,000 people live there now.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
